senior finished in the top 25 at The Patriot All-America Thunderbolt Invitational in Surprise, Arizona. Shooting a 1-under 215, he shared a three-way tie for the 22nd position.
The tournament featured 64 of the nation’s top male collegiate players competing December 29-31 at Sterling Grove Golf & Country Club. Named after the Air Force P-47 Thunderbolt, the tournament consisted of players who are ranked in the top 1000 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), are PING Second, Third and Honorable Mention All-Americans from Divisions II, III, NAIA and NJCAA, or are AJGA Second Team and Honorable Mention All-Americans.
A resident of Omagh, Northern Ireland, Hyland qualified for the tournament after earning Ping All-America honorable mention two years in a row.
Hyland shot his tournament low of 69 in the opening round, a 72 in round two and finished with a 74 on the third round.
“It was a fantastic experience competing in Arizona, I can’t thank (coach) David Woodrum and D&E enough for giving me the opportunity,” Hyland said.
Hyland picked up his fourth career victory in September at the and led the team to a first-place finish in team standings. In the 2020-2021 season, Hyland was selected for DII PING All-American Honorable Mention, All-MEC First Team, Mountain East Conference Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week and the DII PING Atlantic All-Region Team. He also finished atop individual leaderboard at the UC Invitational.
In October, Hyland helped the Senators claim the . The team closed out the fall season with one second place, one third place and three victories. The team will return for its spring season in March.
