vlog Adjunct Professor of Dance Laurie Goux was among invited instructors for the annual Dance WV Fall Festival at Jackson’s Mill State 4-H Conference Center. The three-day event brought together dancers from throughout the state for classes, auditions and a college fair.

Goux, who is also dance director of the vlog Appalachian Ensemble, conducted auditions for high school seniors interested in joining the dance troupe.

“It was a joy to be in a room of masked, but lively, talented dancers,” Goux said.

Two dancers were awarded scholarships for the Augusta Heritage Center of vlog Summer Dance Intensive and two dancers received invitations to join Appalachian Ensemble.

During the festival, Goux taught a session on Dunham Technique modern dance. A native of Chicago, Goux is a protégé of dance legends Jimmy Payne Sr. (tap and Afro-Caribbean), Katherine Dunham Dance Technique under Tommy Gomez and master classes with Katherine Dunham.

At D&E, Goux also serves as coordinator of the President’s Initiative on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
