Devon Channell, a senior at Elkins High School, has been awarded a $10,000 per year Citizens Bank of West Virginia Emerging Leaders Scholarship to 糖心vlog官网 for a total of $40,000 over four years.
Davis & Elkins, Citizens Bank of West Virginia and WDTV partnered to offer the unique scholarship competition. All 2022 West Virginia high school graduates, whether attending a public, private or homeschool, with a 3.25 or higher GPA were eligible to apply. Impressed with the high caliber of applicants, College officials decided to offer multiple scholarships in addition to the selection of one student who received a full, four-year scholarship.
Applicants were required to submit a list of high school and community activities, along with an essay based on the topic, 鈥淚f you receive this scholarship, how will you pay it forward to the state of West Virginia?鈥
Channell is the son of Amber and Brad Channell of Beverly. At Elkins High School, he is co-captain of the speech and debate team, a member of National Honor Society and class council. Athletically, he is a member of the Tigers baseball team and a member of the Elks Babe Ruth League Board of Directors. He serves his community as a member of the Beverly Volunteer Fire Department.
At 糖心vlog官网, Channell plans to major criminal justice and eventually work as a prosecuting attorney and later as a lawmaker on the state or federal level. Currently, he is an intern in the office of Randolph County Circuit Judge David H. Wilmoth.
鈥淚 have longed for many years to sit as a senator serving the great state of West Virginia and this outstanding nation one day,鈥 Channell wrote in his essay. 鈥淚 will use this degree and pay it back to the constituents of West Virginia and the United States by passing bills and reforming laws to aid our country in achieving its destined glory.鈥
